Questions from practice

Practical answers for making, learning and working together.

Where should I start if I have never made an AI film?

Choose a bounded role and a short piece you can finish. Your knowledge of a workplace, community or relationship may be more useful than prior tool experience. Begin with a clear brief, permission to use the material, a responsible collaborator and someone who can review the result. HKAIFA’s role-practice course centres on an actual delivery and specific producer feedback. Published tuition, dates, services and terms precede registration; payment opens access when enrolment is available.

What should I budget beyond the course fee?

Separate tuition from production costs. Compare the included resource allowance with the actual needs for people, locations, rights, editing, sound and revisions. HKAIFA publishes the course allowance and exclusions before registration. The producer-priorities course compares creative trade-offs against an actual budget and records the delivered work and cost ledger. Software use is part of the production calculation; it is not the whole cost of making a film.

How do I keep a character and location consistent between shots?

Use production references and check the assembled sequence for visual continuity, but distinguish that task from character continuity. A recognisable face does not explain why someone chooses, changes or remembers a relationship. The course One person. Three difficult choices. develops connected scenes and asks viewers to explain the character’s decisions and their costs. Tool support serves the scenes; the central work is making motivation, emotional consequences and relationships believable.

How does an AI workflow scale from short clips to a feature film?

A longer film needs more than more generated clips: it needs a sustained dramatic question, consequential character choices, permissions, people and a feasible delivery plan. Finish a representative sequence before extending the scope. HKAIFA’s current catalogue develops bounded scenes, short works and tested story worlds rather than promising a finished feature from one prompt. Its world-development course tests whether different teams can create distinct stories that respect shared rules and consequences.

How can several people generate shots for the same film without losing continuity?

Agree the story’s core, decision rights, responsibilities and review points before dividing the work. Shared references help visual continuity, while shared reasoning protects character and tone. The collaboration course makes competing views visible, develops reasoned alternatives and records who made the final decision and why. Workspace tasks and contribution evidence support a verifiable account of each person’s responsibility; the final assembled work remains the object of review.
