Bring one authorised film to a new market

Turn a finished work with no clear route to viewers into an actionable release business. Start with a single territory and a single film.

Customer & audience

An independent rights holder and a specific audience abroad. Test Hong Kong–Southeast Asia, Chinese-language diaspora or another route supported by the team’s language and relationships.

Bounded deliverable

A rights and territory matrix, localised sales materials, deliverables checklist, channel shortlist, unit economics and a documented release or licensing test.

Evidence & acceptance

Hold five qualified conversations with exhibitors, community hosts or distributors. Obtain one written decision on a bounded release proposal. Record bookings and receipts only when confirmed.

Resources

Rights holder, local cultural adviser, translator, release producer and channel contacts. Subtitle, classification, venue and promotion costs require a separate budget.

Working method

Interview the local audience before rewriting the pitch. Compare community screenings, transactional access and licensing; test one route and document why the others were rejected.

First 90 days

  1. Days 1–14: confirm rights, territory and audience.
  2. Days 15–35: prepare localisation and delivery materials.
  3. Days 36–65: test a channel proposal and negotiate scope.
  4. Days 66–90: run the authorised test or record the blocking decision and revised route.

Academy research briefs define work to investigate. Teams secure client access, permissions and production budgets before delivery.
