Turn cultural knowledge into a commissioned experience
Help a museum, archive or cultural organisation make a specific collection meaningful to a new audience through a film or spatial experience.
Customer & audience
A curator or education lead with an identifiable audience problem and authority to discuss access. Choose a collection the team can legitimately research.
Bounded deliverable
A jointly scoped brief, provenance and permission register, one complete short experience, installation or screening specifications and an itemised commissioning proposal.
Evidence & acceptance
Test with the collection steward and at least 15 intended visitors. Record what people understood, what was misrepresented and the commissioning decision. Do not substitute visual spectacle for historical accuracy.
Resources
Curator or source expert, community representative where appropriate, producer, designer and venue contact. Access, reproduction and participation permissions precede production.
Working method
Identify one visitor question. Work from documented sources, label interpretation, invite correction and test the piece in its intended viewing conditions. Price maintenance and adaptation as well as initial production.
First 90 days
- Days 1–14: collection access, visitor question and source register.
- Days 15–35: co-developed brief and paper or screen prototype.
- Days 36–65: production, expert correction and visitor testing.
- Days 66–90: delivery specifications, commissioning proposal and operating decision.
Academy research briefs define work to investigate. Teams secure client access, permissions and production budgets before delivery.
